Casino Royale’s opening sequence is likened to the latter part of Quantum Of Solace’s in the sense that it features a dynamic CGI animation, Casino Royale’s beginning with Bond firing a pistol into the 3D circle, zooming out whilst streams of blood dissolves the screen with involving Bond sitting & standing on elements existent on playing cards, which are also expressed freely around the frame (clubs, hearts, diamonds etc, battling enemy after enemy, prevailing on all occasions as well as cutaway shots of pistols firing & shots of bulls-eyes converting into roulette sets, with the opening sequence eventually concluding with Bond’s CGI figure walking towards the foreground, giving off a sincere & determined facial expression. The codes & conventions displayed in the form of elements such as the jack, clubs, diamonds & hearts that are notable on playing cards, are linked directly to the title of the film, perhaps a crossover of themes implied with the elements being fired out of a pistol as well as associating the elements with one of the title’s themes which is gambling that involves decision-making, the colour red seems to stand out dominantly in comparison to the other colours in use, with red symbolising danger possibly indicating the latter is one of the themes involved. In addition to the elements are weapons fired freely, the vague revelation of primary locations & settings as well as a lack an opening scenario makes the purpose of the opening sequence based solely on a clear introduction of themes without giving much away to the actual genre of the film & probable locations & settings. In regards to the music or sounds, there are very few vital ideas, if any, that are conveying, with the use of sound-bridge music which helps represents the flow of the moving images with the continuity & consistency the music provides along with it being parallel, therefore showing a true reflection of what is happening in the opening sequence, one idea that’s fairly intriguing is the ending in which Bond goes from being in the background to the foreground in the frame, in the process, a short flash of Bond in real-life is displayed, perhaps portraying Bond as a character who is a bit of a conundrum in the sense that there’s this mysterious side to him in terms of personality, simultaneously it also informs the audience that Bond, walking from background to foreground in the frame, should be a character valued highly in importance, contributing to this is his body language & facial expression being one that is sincere & concentrated, linking to the plot in the film, it suggests at that point that Bond has a objective or purpose that needs to be fulfilled or met. The use of suits as well as colour for the characters is also one of the few conveying ideas, particularly when comparing the suits & colours used for Bond with his enemies, shows the differences they have in purpose, perhaps also differences in general such as personality, objectives & status as well as the representation of the particular organisation they are associates with. The production companies for Quantum Of Solace in Eon Productions & Danjaq LLC are also the companies responsible for the production of Casino Royale.
